Objective: To observe the effect of tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) inhalation on lung function and airway inflammation in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).

Methods: 67 patients with stable COPD were selected as the study subjects. Lung function tests were performed according to the results of induced sputum eosinophil count: group A: bronchial diastolic test was negative and sputum eosinophil count ≥ 3% : Neutrophils were significantly increased, and sputum eosinophil count <3%. The two groups were given tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) inhalant 18μg /time, once /d, once every 6 weeks; 6 weeks after the review of lung function, and then take the sputum induced cell analysis and determination of LTB4 content.

Results: After 6 weeks, FEV1 in group A and B increased (0.13 ± 0.10) L, (0.04 ± 0.05) L, respectively(P <0.01). The level of LTB4 in group A was not significantly different before and after treatment(P <0.05), but there was no significant difference between the two groups(P <0.05). There was significant difference between the two groups before and after treatment(P <0.05).

Conclusion: Inhalation of tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) can improve lung function in patients with stable COPD and reduce airway inflammation in COPD patients with neutrophil infiltration.
