OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy and safety of tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) inhalation in the treatment of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Methods: COPD patients with moderate pulmonary function (GOLD grade, FEV1 / FVC70%, 50% ≤ FEV180% predicted) were randomly divided into two groups. The treatment group was treated with tiotropium bromide and the control group tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) quantitative aerosol for 12 months, in the first month, the first 6 months, 12 months, respectively, pulmonary function tests, measured FEV1 and FVC, while 12 months recorded the number of acute exacerbations.

Results: The percentage of forced expiratory volume (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), FEV1% increase and the number of acute exacerbations in the treatment group were significantly different from those in the control group (p <0.05). Adverse reactions were dry mouth (6%), no other discomfort.

Conclusion: Tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) is effective and safe for patients with COPD with moderate lung function.
