To investigate the effect of tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) on pulmonary function and prognosis in patients with severe asthma.

Methods: A total of 104 patients were randomly divided into experimental group and control group. The test group was given tiotropium powder inhalation therapy, the control group only conventional treatment. The differences of lung function, arterial blood gas and prognosis between the two groups before and 6 months after treatment were compared.

Results: ① After treatment, the FEV1%, PEF% and PaO2 were 77.98% ± 7.52%, 83.2% 9 ± 8.26%, (76.51 ± 7.26) mmHg, 74.53% ± 7.33%, 79.61% (39.61 ± 7.16) mmHg, the test group was higher than the control group, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P <0.05); test group and control group PaCO2 were (38.68 ± 3.44) mmHg, (41.64 ± 4.09) mmHg, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P <0.05); ② The average number of hospitalizations, length of hospital stay, mechanical ventilation and death were (1.10 ± 0.11) (0.22 ± 0.04) / year, 8.16% (1/52), the control group were (1.22 ± 0.15) times / year, (10.41 ± 0.95) d / year, (0.26 ± 0.06 (30.95%) compared with the control group (19.05%), the difference was not significant (P <0.05); the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P <0.05).

Conclusion: Tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) can improve lung function and prognosis in patients with severe asthma, and does not increase adverse drug reactions.
