Tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) is a long-acting anti-muscarinic drug or anticholinergic agent that has similar affinity for muscarinic receptor subunits M1 and M2. In the respiratory tract, the drug by inhibiting the smooth muscle M3 receptor to play a pharmacological effect, so that bronchial relaxation. Preclinical in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that this product can prevent methacholine-induced bronchoconstriction in a dose-dependent manner lasting up to 24h.

One-year placebo-controlled study showed an increase in FEV1 of 0.13 L (13%) and a maximum increase of 0.24 L (24%) within 30 min after administration of the first dose. 1 day after treatment 1 week, compared with the average increase in FEV1 was 0.28 ~ 0.31L (28% to 31%). Two 6-month placebo-controlled studies have also improved lung function.
