The tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) powder inhaler is indicated for maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema, maintenance therapy for concomitant dyspnea, and prophylaxis of acute episodes.

Compared the difference between glycopyrrolate 50 micrograms, once-a-day treatment, and placebo treatment. The second objective of the study was to compare the efficacy of glyglone versus olive tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) 18 micrograms per day for treatment of subjects.

In this study, 163 patients (mean age 68.7 years, 97.5% men) were randomized to receive either glycopyrrolate (n = 123) or tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) (n = 40). Of these, 84% completed the study.

The results of the study showed a significant increase in clinically significant values of FEV1 (pre-dose FEV1) in the 2 groups compared with baseline values at the 12th week of treatment (101 ml and 173 Ml). Furthermore, there was no event rate in patients with acute exacerbation of COPD at week 12, 78.9% and 76.6%, respectively.

The primary objective of this study was to demonstrate a noninferiority of treatment with glycemide (50 micrograms per day) over a 12 week period compared with tiotropium (18 micrograms per day). The primary outcome measure used was the trough value FEV1 at 12 weeks after treatment and a limit of -50 ml for noninferiority.

The secondary efficacy goal of the study was to demonstrate superiority of glyburide versus tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) in those events that met the noninferiority criteria. Other secondary end points included TDI, SGRQ, use of daily rescue medications, COPD exacerbations, and COPD symptoms.

Because of the technical difficulties with blinded tiotropium bromide(136310-93-5) studies, the previous GLOW studies used OL design. However, in blinded and unblinded studies, the effect of tiotropium on subjective outcome measures, such as SGRQ and TDI.
